Strictly Bluegrass
Featuring: The Ready Brothers, Wood Valley Pickers, and the Pheasant Pluckers

Sponsored by St. Michael's Knights of Columbus Council #8915
Price: $15.00 at the Gate

For almost 19 years one of the mainstays of Bluegrass and traditional country music in northeast Kansas was a band called Calhoun County. When that band broke up four of the members decided they still liked playing together and The Ready Brothers was formed. Like their predecessors the brothers knew they wanted to play more than bluegrass but they also knew they wanted bluegrass to be the base line for their music. The challenge for them would be to create a good sound with a non traditional lineup. Since that initial lineup there has been one change and the mandolin brother was replaced with a banjo brother. The songs that fit the bands instrumentation, washboard, guitar, banjo and bass, came quickly and included Bluegrass, Western Swing, Traditional Country, Blues and Roots music. The band’s name took more time. One day the boys decided they were always ready to play music. They also decided they had known each other for so long they were like family. The Ready Brothers were born. As you will find out this led to names for the brothers that lets you know they enjoy making music and not taking themselves too seriously. Over the last several years they have shared the stage at festivals with several bands including the Steeldrivers, Wayne "The Train" Hancock, Bull Harmon & Bullseye, The James King Band, The Charlie Sizemore Band, Midnight Flight, Ozark Alliance, Bright Water Junction, Junior Sisk & Ramblers Choice, Lonesome Traveler, Chris Jones & the Nightdrivers, Jimmy Allison & the Ozark Rounders, Driven, Tyler Gregory, Kasey Rausch, The Jeff & Vida Band, The Red State Ramblers, Howard Iceberg & The Titanics, Truckstop Darling, The Dirty River Ramblers, Pastense and many, many others. Some of their favorite places to play include bars and coffee houses as well as music festivals where their range of styles and entertaining humor provides a crowd pleasing show. Original tunes ranging from honky tonk, banjo inspired instrumentals and old country waltzes round out a show that has made them a crowd favorite. They currently have 4 recordings, In The Heartland, At The Honky Tonks, Having Fun and their latest release, No More Hoboes.

But when a few of the missing critters reappear, having reverted to pre-enlightenment savagery, it exposes existing anti-carnivore prejudice among the city's herbivores that threatens to damage the fabric of their diverse metropolis. Shakira, Idris Elba, J.K. Simmons, Nate Torrence, Jenny Slate, Tommy Chong, Octavia L. Spencer, Bonnie Hunt, Alan Tudyk, Don Lake, and John DiMaggio also lend their voices. Author: Violet LeVoit

When Mo Pitney sings "let me tell you about country" in his debut single, he's doing more than telling. He's showing. Appropriately titled, the song "Country" is as much positioning statement as introduction. In three minutes and 16 seconds, it is almost precisely who he is in word and deed. The vocal delivery, storytelling, musicianship and reflections of his outdoor lifestyle - as well as faith, family and patriotism - offer a spot-on portrayal. Joined by early fan favorites "Clean Up On Aisle Five" and "Come Do A Little Life," the song carves an unmistakably country yet completely fresh groove for the genre. In short, it sounds like nothing else, but absolutely belongs.

From this tiny town that's home to a gas station, two blinking yellow lights, and a small tin- roofed barn dubbed Studio B, country rockers Parmalee launched their long journey to Nashville. The near-fatal robbery Parmalee experienced after a show would have destroyed most bands. But brothers Matt and Scott Thomas, cousin Barry Knox and longtime friend Josh McSwain didn't call it quits. Instead it reinforced their intense motivation and dedication to one another and to their determination to succeed.

Each obstacle that delayed Parmalee's arrival to Nashville was an extra mile that allowed the groundbreaking sounds of artists like Jason Aldean and Eric Church to pave the way for the worlds of country radio and Parmalee's brand of country music to meet at the perfect crossroad.

"A lot of people called it prison when I was growin' up/But these are my roots and this is what I love," sings Justin about Poyen, Ark.

Justin knew he had to record the song because it succinctly captured the upbringing that shaped him both as an artist and as a man, but he wasn't sure if the autobiographical song would speak to those from different backgrounds. "Thank God I was wrong," he says.

Edge of Forever is definitely one of the finest Lynyrd Skynyrd tribute acts in the U.S.A. This band prides themselves on looking and sounding just like Lynyrd Skynyrd. The vocals, drums, bass, keyboards and guitars have been meticuliously studied, polished and are served up hot at every performance with everyones' favorites, and all of the stage props and the pounding southern/blues/rock pulse of the timeless Lynyrd Skynyrd... This act plays the larger venues which have ample stage space for the band to be able to do it's show... not to mention a place where you can seat all of the people who seem to "crawl out of the woodwork" to be able to see anything that even slightly resembles the world famous "Lynyrd Skynyrd!!!" 7:00pm Saturday, August 14th - David Nail
    with Special Guest Relentless

Growing up in a small southeastern Missouri town, David Nail might've chosen to follow any of the dreams that drifted by like the riverboats on the mighty Mississippi: but in the end, it was music that called his name. "I was definitely more into sports growing up," says the Midwest native, "I think I was expected to play in college, but as I grew older I became more interested in music. After my senior year, I had a few small college offers to play baseball. My coach came to me and said 'David, you need to decide where you're going to school,' and out of the blue I just said, 'Do you know anybody in Nashville?'"

For singer-songwriter Nail, it was a history-making moment -- small town boy decides to chase a big city dream -- and a theme that has informed his music ever since. On his first album from MCA Nashville, he neatly bridges the divide, laying claim to his hometown roots while keeping a firm grip on the future, and all the deeply emotional territory in between.

Inheriting a cross-pollinated love of country and rock & roll from their parents, The Band Perry - siblings Kimberly, Reid, and Neil Perry - say that they bleed the bright red blood of American music.

The three have always felt the drive to perform and create music, sweating out the summers in Mobile, Alabama playing in any dusty roadhouse or church that would have them. Kimberly strapped on her first Gibson - and fronted her first high school band - at age 15, employing Reid, then 10, and Neil, only 8, as her roadies. Changing guitar strings and polishing cymbals for their big sister lost its charm after awhile, so the brothers formed their own band, opening for Kimberly's band.
